At Chemours, we are dedicated to ensuring that chemistry is not only essential but also responsible. Our 2030 Corporate Responsibility Commitment (CRC) goals reflect the company’s culture, values, and ethics, while also serving as an extension of our broader business strategy. Striving to achieve these ambitious objectives pushes us to anticipate and manage potential disruptions and continue innovating solutions that are sustainable and better serve the industries we support. Simultaneously, these goals help guarantee that our products are produced responsibly, with minimal environmental impact, and in ways that safeguard the communities where we operate.
Following the completion of our first Double Materiality Assessment (DMA), we initiated a review of our 2030 CRC pillars and goals to address the risks, impacts, and opportunities highlighted by the assessment. Insights from the DMA allow us to more effectively respond to both current and emerging business and stakeholder needs. Some goals are being refreshed or integrated into business operations after reaching their initial targets, while new aspirational statements, aligned with our strategic priorities, have been developed to expand or introduce additional targets for future sustainability reporting.
Double Materiality Assessment
In 2024, Chemours conducted its inaugural Double Materiality Assessment to identify and understand the sustainability risks and opportunities that are most critical to our business and have the greatest impact on society and external stakeholders.
We plan to update the DMA regularly through employee interviews, as well as the use of business intelligence tools and benchmarking. The Chemours Sustainability Council (CSC), along with leaders from our three business units, will continue providing input on prioritized issues and validating research, survey, interview, and data analytics results. Findings from the DMA will be combined with other business insights to determine focus areas and refine commitments and disclosure practices. Effective prioritization and management of these risks, opportunities, and impacts will be embedded into our strategy, business models, risk management, and governance processes to support ongoing commercial success.
The DMA also positions us to meet emerging sustainability disclosure requirements, including compliance with the European Union’s Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). As the assessment evolves, priority topics may shift to reflect changing business and stakeholder concerns.
Using Double Materiality to Shape Sustainability Goals
The DMA has been instrumental in guiding the refresh of our 2030 CRC goals and aspirations, ensuring they align with the most relevant issues for our business and stakeholders and address the evolving sustainability challenges facing the world.
Recognizing the importance of the material topics identified in the DMA, we are leveraging Chemours’ scientific expertise and innovation to drive meaningful change. For example, in response to the Resource Use and Circular Economy focus area, we are expanding our landfill intensity goal to include broader circularity metrics across materials, water, and energy. Within the water category, our strategy is evolving to encompass not just our direct operations but also our value chain, helping to address water stress and quality in local watersheds.
Similarly, for the Own Workforce topic highlighted in the DMA, we are broadening the scope of our Trusted Employer aspiration. Beyond increasing representation, we aim to cultivate an inclusive workplace where all employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to grow professionally and personally.
Overall, the DMA is guiding the evolution of our 2030 CRC goals, enabling us to build on past achievements, enhance our impact, and strengthen our collaborations to meet both current and future sustainability challenges.
