Acer slashes carbon footprint across supply chain

10/24/2022

Acer’s 21 Day Challenge encouraged employees to develop green habits.

Acer recently organized a "21-Day Challenge" to encourage employees, partners, and suppliers to reduce their carbon footprints.

More than 7,000 people from all over the world took part, including over 2,000 partner employees, resulting in an estimated 152,491 kg of CO2 emissions reduction, or the equivalent of CO2 absorbed by 15,249 grown trees in one year. The campaign capitalizes on Acer's ability to bring together the strengths of its supply chain partners, which resulted in 154,042 "green actions" being recorded during the challenge. Acer employees alone completed one action every 30 seconds.

“This tremendous result demonstrates the impact of our Earthion  mission through our joint efforts,” said Tiffany Huang, Co-COO, Acer Inc. “Besides our amazing employees who took part, I want to express my gratitude to more than 2000 participants from our business partners who joined us on this initiative, as every decision and action counts toward saving our Earth. It is said that it takes 21 days to develop a habit, this was the idea behind our 21-Day Challenge.”

On Acer Green Day, the 21-Day Challenge began. It was also open to Acer's partners' and suppliers' employees, who were encouraged to take green actions on a regular basis to help reduce the environmental burden. A mobile app was created to allow users to record their environmentally friendly actions and track the amount of CO2 emissions saved. Furthermore, in honor of this worthy cause, Acer collaborated with One Tree Planted and pledged to donate 8,000 trees across its four regions of operations.

Acer will continue to work toward the Acer Group's goals of using post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in 20-30% of its PCs and displays by 2025 and using 100% renewable energy by 2035. The Vero line exemplifies Acer's eco-conscious efforts by offering greener options to consumers through the use of eco-friendly and recycled materials, as well as being designed for a longer lifespan to reduce material consumption and waste.

The 21-Day Challenge is part of Acer's Earthion mission, which seeks to unite its partners in increasing the impact of joint environmental efforts through habits of reducing, reusing, and recycling. The mission of Earthion is to integrate responsible manufacturing and logistics processes into the supply chain ecosystem, with a focus on energy, product design, packaging design, manufacturing, logistics, and recycling.

As Acer works toward its 2025 sustainability goals, which include the circular economy, climate change, and social impact, the 21-Day Challenge will be held again in 2023.
