11/20/2017

Diversity and inclusion is “a strategy for business success” at Duke Energy.

Dailycsr.com – 20 November 2017 – The “national benchmarking study” of Human Rights Campaign ranking companies annually on LGBT friendliness of their policies and practices, gives a “perfect score” of 100% to Duke Energy, whereby the company earned a distinction in “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality”.

The CEI or the “Corporate Equality Index” of 2018 scrutinises employers under five criteria, namely “non-discrimination policies, benefits, organizational competency and accountability around LGBT inclusion, public commitment, and citizenship”, whereby “only four companies headquartered in the Charlotte region”, the Duke Energy being one among them, were the perfect scorers. While the Diversity and Inclusion Director at Duke Energy, LaTonya King, said:
“Our communities, customers and workforce are more diverse today than ever, and so we approach diversity and inclusion as a strategy for business success, as well as the right thing to do. I'm very proud of the progress we've made and will continue to make on this journey toward inclusion.”

The policies along with practices of Duke Energy that qualify the above mentioned criteria are “anti-discrimination training, equal health coverage for transgender individuals without exclusion for medically necessary care, philanthropic giving to support the LGBT community, and an employee resource group whose mission is to promote LGBT inclusion”. The said “employee resource group” is named the WeR1, meaning “We Are One for LGBT Equality”, and consists of around two hundred members while it also is supported by the senior leadership of Duke Energy.
