Creating a balance between work and life at GoDaddy

12/08/2022

Creating a balance between work and life at GoDaddy
When we say "human first" at GoDaddy, we truly mean it. Our people are our most valuable asset, so understanding their needs, both inside and outside of the workplace, is critical.

We care about our employees, even if they turn off their computers at the end of the day.

This blog series will delve into our employees' '5-9,' where we will showcase our employees outside of their 9-5, and deep dive into how GoDaddy's flexible, human-first approach allows us to focus on what makes us thrive; whether that is a hobby, a side-hustle, or the simplest of things to recharge our batteries.

To kick off our series, meet Jenny Oliveira. Jenny is a Program Manager within the Talent Team.

Work Life Balance
Work-life balance can be defined in a variety of ways, but for me, the ability to live a fulfilled life outside of my GoDaddy hours is critical. Because I am a full-time remote employee based in New Jersey, my days usually begin with a nice walk outside while listening to an audiobook — this really allows me to clear my head and start work refreshed. For me, not having to fight traffic in the morning and arrive at work stressed is a thing of the past!

Work-life balance also entails being able to handle adult responsibilities such as going to doctors' appointments, running to the post office, or waiting in line at the DMV without feeling overwhelmed by guilt.

How does GoDaddy help with this?
One of GoDaddy's five core values is to Live Passionately. While other companies do not walk the walk, GoDaddy does and encourages others to do so! Everyone is so considerate and accommodating of your time! I can honestly say that two months into my GoDaddy Career, everything that was shared during orientation is true — We Rock!

Relaxing after work
After work, I usually do some doggie playtime outside before preparing dinner. I enjoy cooking and creating tasty dishes. My parents owned a Portuguese restaurant for 25 years, and I can say that my mother instilled in me a love of cooking.

Fast charging your batteries
Believe it or not, recharging my battery always includes some form of socialising. As a completely remote employee, it's nice to get out and meet people in person, whether it's with friends or family. My niece and nephew enjoy having "Tia" (aunt in Portuguese) over to play.

Imagining a perfect evening
The perfect 5-9 usually occurs on a Friday, when the weekend is just around the corner. During the week, the ideal 5-9 is when I can end my workday on a positive note, feeling accomplished, followed by a delicious meal where my boyfriend cleans up so I don't have to, and then curling up on the couch to watch TV.

Side hustles
Aside from cooking, I enjoy curling up with a good book and getting lost in it. When I'm not reading, I like to watch true crime documentaries. I have a degree in Psychology and Criminal Justice and wanted to be a forensic psychologist but realized my stomach couldn't handle it.
