Medtronic Highlights FY26 Healthcare and ESG Progress
Medtronic, a global healthcare technology company, has published its fiscal year 2026 (FY26) Impact Report, “Precision with Purpose,” outlining the progress it made toward its impact and sustainability objectives.

The company said FY26 was marked by continued innovation and strong execution. During the year, Medtronic reached more than 82 million patients worldwide, committed $2.9 billion to research and development, and secured more than 315 product approvals across major markets. Among the key milestones was U.S. FDA clearance for the Hugo™ robotic-assisted surgery system. Collectively, these efforts are intended to broaden access to healthcare and help tackle significant unmet medical needs.

“What comes next is continuing to advance robotics, AI, and connected technologies so more patients in more places can benefit,” said Geoff Martha, Medtronic chairman and CEO. “The goal is simple: better care, better outcomes, and broader access.”

Medtronic’s FY26 Impact Report highlights progress across three primary areas: patients, people and the planet.

Patients: Expanding Access Through Innovation and Quality
Medtronic continued to prioritize patients by applying emerging technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence and data-driven solutions to improve healthcare outcomes and make advanced care available to more people.

Key achievements during FY26 included:
  • Expanded robotic surgery capabilities: In December 2025, Medtronic received FDA clearance for its Hugo™ robotic-assisted surgery system, giving U.S. surgeons and healthcare systems access to the company’s differentiated robotic-assisted platform.
  • Improved product quality and safety: The company reported a 70% decrease in quality nonconformances, driven by the broader implementation of First Time Quality initiatives across manufacturing, distribution and service operations.
  • Supported healthcare workforce development: Over the past four years, Medtronic has provided education to 1.3 million healthcare professionals worldwide, helping strengthen access to care and facilitate the adoption of advanced medical therapies.
People: Developing an Inclusive and Future-Ready Workforce
Medtronic also continued investing in the employees, suppliers and communities that support its Mission. Its FY26 efforts included initiatives focused on economic opportunity, education and workforce development.

Among the reported accomplishments were:
  • Increased economic opportunity: Medtronic spent $1.9 billion with small and diverse suppliers, supporting more than 15,600 jobs and contributing more than $3 billion in economic impact.
  • Supported the next generation of healthcare technology talent: The company awarded its first Medtronic Spark scholarships to 100 students in 12 countries, forming part of its longer-term approach to developing its future workforce.
  • Strengthened employee skills: Medtronic invested $68 million in employee learning and development, equivalent to approximately $750 per employee. The investment is intended to help employees develop new capabilities, pursue growth opportunities and prepare for changing workplace demands.
Planet: Reducing Emissions and Improving Resource Efficiency
Environmental performance remained another focus of Medtronic’s FY26 activities, with the company working to lower emissions, improve resource efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of its products and packaging.

The company reported several areas of progress:
  • Reduced operational emissions: Medtronic achieved a 68% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions intensity compared with its FY20 baseline. Renewable sources accounted for 65% of the company’s electricity, putting it on a path toward its FY30 target of 100% renewable electricity.
  • Advanced Scope 3 efforts: The company increased supplier engagement to approximately 18% while responding to growing value-chain data requirements from customers, health systems and hospital procurement organizations.
  • Reduced packaging and transportation impacts: Medtronic eliminated approximately 230 tonnes of packaging materials and reduced shipping volumes as part of its efforts to advance more sustainable products and packaging.
Alongside these environmental and social initiatives, Medtronic said it continues to maintain strong governance practices, ethical standards and transparency as it works to maintain the confidence of patients, healthcare providers and business partners.

Alignment With ESG Reporting Standards
The Medtronic 2026 Impact Report covers the company’s principal environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities and aligns its reporting with several established global frameworks and standards.

These include the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) Standards, and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), established by the Financial Stability Board (FSB).
