11/09/2022

The recognition includes a special mention given the career growth and stability opportunities provided by the company.

International Paper has been named as a leading company on the American Opportunity Index, which analyses the performance of companies in areas including worker access, mobility, and wage.

The Burning Glass Institute, Harvard Business School's Managing the Future of Work Project, and the Schultz Family Foundation created a corporate scorecard that measures the 250 largest U.S. public companies to determine which are most likely to create economic mobility for their employees. International Paper ranked overall in the 9th position, with special mention given to career growth and career stability.

“Investing in people is central to our future. We believe that investments in our people and communities are investments in our success,” said Thomas J. Plath, International Paper’s senior vice president of Human Resources and Global Citizenship.

“At IP, we transform renewable resources into products people depend on, and we couldn’t do it without the 38,000 employees who bring their best to work every day. Our ranking in the American Opportunity Index is recognition of how we help our people thrive and succeed by being an employer of choice in the communities where we operate.”

International Paper is committed to fostering Thriving People & Communities as part of its Vision 2030 goals. This goal is supported by employee development programs such as:
  • The International Paper LEAD leadership development program, which provides new and experienced first and second level leaders with the leadership skills necessary to build an engaged team, develop their skills, and foster an inclusive culture.
  • A series of capability-specific training initiatives, including: o Global Manufacturing Training Initiative o Finance Training Initiative o IT University, to assist IP in preparing for long-term success.
  • Human Resources University Supply Chain University

The Index's goal is to empower workers to make better decisions about what positions to seek and which companies to prioritize in their job searches; to recognize companies that are leading the way in creating opportunity; and to arm corporate executives and HR leaders with the data they need to take meaningful action within their organizations to boost the competitiveness of their workforce.
