International Paper Breaks Ground on Sustainable Packaging Plant in Waterloo
International Paper, a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions, has officially begun construction on a new advanced packaging facility in Waterloo, Iowa.

Strategically positioned in the Midwest, this new plant will primarily cater to the protein industry, offering customized, eco-friendly packaging to meet rising market demands.

“We’re excited to break ground in Waterloo and make a meaningful investment in both our company and the local community,” said John Berry, Group Vice President at International Paper. “This project underscores our commitment to expanding in key markets, enhancing our capabilities, and continuing to provide our customers with dependable, high-quality packaging. We’re grateful to everyone who contributed to making this milestone a reality.”

Equipped with the latest in packaging technology and designed with top safety standards in mind, the Waterloo facility will support International Paper’s mission to deliver innovative and sustainable solutions.

Operations are expected to begin in late 2026, with the facility projected to create approximately 65 new positions, bringing the total workforce to around 190 team members.
