Highlighted in The Inner Circle, Dr. Karima Caroline Fitzgerald, MD, FACS, has been honored as a Pinnacle Lifetime Member in recognition of her significant contributions to advanced trauma and acute care surgery.
Dr. Fitzgerald is a distinguished trauma and acute care surgeon, widely regarded for her proficiency in robotic-assisted procedures across emergency general surgery, complex trauma management, and critical care treatment. Her practice centers on caring for patients with both penetrating and blunt force injuries, as well as orthopedic and neurosurgical trauma, blending innovative surgical methods with a strong patient-focused philosophy.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree, double majoring in biology and English, from the State University of New York at Albany. She later completed both her Master of Science in biology and Doctor of Medicine at Indiana University–Purdue University in Indianapolis. Dr. Fitzgerald went on to complete her general surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Pinnacle in Harrisburg, followed by a fellowship in surgical critical care at Penn State University’s Hershey Medical Center.
Board-certified in both general surgery and surgical critical care, Dr. Fitzgerald is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and an active member of the Chest Wall Injury Society. Beyond her clinical work, she contributes her expertise to multiple healthcare advisory boards and advocacy initiatives in the Harrisburg area, underscoring her dedication to improving patient outcomes, strengthening community health, and supporting medical education.
