GP PRO, a division of Georgia-Pacific known for its cutting-edge dispensing and smart monitoring technologies, is once again elevating the standard for intelligent restroom systems with the latest updates to its IoT-enabled KOLO Smart Monitoring System. The new KOLO System 2.0 introduces upgraded hardware, software and network capabilities, enabling faster deployment and delivering deeper, more actionable insights that help facilities improve productivity and sustainability.
“Our newest KOLO enhancements take smart restroom management to the next level by creating more efficient and intuitive workflows for custodial teams,” said John Strom, vice president and general manager of Innovation at GP PRO.
“With smoother navigation, more insightful analytics and a faster, more secure infrastructure, these advancements highlight our dedication to innovation and our ability to help customers realize value more quickly.”
Enhanced Usability, Performance and Operational Ease
KOLO System 2.0 features a streamlined hardware design that simplifies installation and speeds up implementation. The system is powered by MachineQ, a Comcast Company, which provides its upgraded Area 8c Gateway offering flexible mounting and power configurations to minimize installation challenges. These gateways deliver secure, enterprise-level connectivity and allow KOLO technology to work seamlessly across large, high-demand facilities—collecting data on usage, battery status and other critical metrics from GP PRO dispensers. Leveraging long-range LoRaWAN technology, a single Area 8c Gateway can link up to 10,000 devices.
By refining the KOLO System 2.0 architecture and eliminating the need for “collectors,” the number of battery-powered devices has been reduced by as much as 20%. This cuts battery usage, decreases operational costs, eases device management and supports sustainability goals. Security is also strengthened through end-to-end encryption and mutual authentication via LoRaWAN connectivity.
In addition, KOLO sensors are now compatible with more GP PRO dispensers—including towel, tissue, soap and sanitizer models—expanding smart monitoring coverage. Task management has been improved with a clearer interface featuring universally understood icons to support communication across multilingual teams. Self-service analytics allow custodial staff and facility leaders to conduct their own data reviews while still having access to GP PRO customer success experts for support. Enhanced APIs also make integrating KOLO data into existing facility workflows even easier.
KOLO System: Setting a New Standard in Data-Driven Facility Care
The KOLO Smart Monitoring System is widely used in high-traffic settings such as stadiums, arenas, airports, office buildings, restaurants, manufacturing facilities and university campuses. Real-time notifications delivered directly to mobile devices help maintenance teams prevent outages, reduce waste and deploy labor more efficiently. Currently, 99.5% of KOLO-enabled GP PRO dispensers remain fully stocked at all times. Unnecessary checks are reduced by 95%, while cost savings and sustainability benefits are amplified thanks to improved product usage and near-zero waste.
At Sage Realty, a Manhattan-based owner and operator of Class-A office properties, KOLO plays a key role in supporting a superior tenant experience. “KOLO operates quietly in the background while driving the operational excellence our tenants expect,” said Alec Fomin, director of tenant experience at Sage Realty.
GP PRO to Highlight New Innovations at ISSA and BSCAI
During the ISSA Show in Las Vegas (Nov. 11–13), GP PRO will showcase updates to KOLO System 2.0, its Premium Restroom Collection and a variety of other maintenance solutions designed to simplify and elevate facility care. The Dixie Ultra SmartStock Mini Tri-Tower Cutlery Station—an ISSA Innovation Award nominee—will also be featured.
Additionally, the KOLO team will present a Coffee Talk session at the BSCAI Contracting Success Conference on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 8:00–8:45 a.m., titled “Transforming Facility Management: The BSC Partnership Pathway Program and KOLO System.”
