Covia’s 2024 Corporate Responsibility Report reflects a year driven by purpose, innovation, and a strong dedication to delivering long-term value for our customers, communities, and the planet. With a firm belief that corporate responsibility drives meaningful change, we reinforced our foundations and made notable progress in advancing our sustainability strategy. The highlights below showcase the concrete actions we’ve taken to transform our goals into measurable outcomes—ranging from goal realignment to expanding our environmental and social efforts.
 
Program-Wide Highlights
  • Recalibrated the baseline for our 2030 Goals to more accurately measure progress and account for structural changes following the divestment of the Energy business.
  • Updated our governance framework and clarified sustainability roles across the Covia team.
  • Renewed focus and commitment to corporate responsibility as a core business priority.
 
Environmental Stewardship
  • Piloted an idle-reduction initiative by implementing idle-management systems on equipment.
  • Directed $13 million towards energy efficiency projects, including upgrades and equipment replacements.
  • Partnered with Monarch Joint Venture to begin converting 12 acres at our Cleburne, Texas, location into a pollinator garden, supporting monarch butterfly habitat restoration.
  • Achieved an 11% decrease in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions intensity compared to our baseline year.
  • Continued enhancements to our Environmental Management System (EMS).
 
Social Impact
  • Completed the second year of our structured internship program, welcoming 10 students from universities across the United States.
  • Donated nearly $900,000 to local initiatives through The Covia Foundation.
  • Rolled out the Immediate Response Program (IRP)—an extension of the Covia Cares Emergency Relief Fund—to aid employees affected by Hurricane Helene in October 2024.
  • Logged over 12,000 volunteer hours by employees.
  • Conducted regional Safety & Health Bootcamps and Workshops with over 100 participants from all Covia sites.
 
Governance and Ethics
  • Submitted our second Communication on Progress (CoP) to reaffirm our commitment as a signatory of the UN Global Compact.
  • Updated and centralized access to company policies on our internal platform.
  • Achieved a 93% completion rate for cybersecurity training among employees.
  • Utilized various AI-powered tools to strengthen cybersecurity defenses and minimize cyber risks.
