Home Depot Foundation commits up to $1M towards Hurricane Ian support
The Home Depot Foundation is providing up to $1 million in immediate support towards disaster relief and long-term recovery efforts in communities affected by Hurricane Ian.
This new disaster relief fundraising will increase the foundation's 2022 disaster efforts to more than $5.5 million.
Together with Home Depot Foundation’s nonprofit partners and associate volunteers, the Foundation helps communities in need by distributing water and supplies, providing food, providing shelter, and clearing debris from storm-hit areas along with emergency assistance.
The Foundation has also shipped more than 1,800 disaster relief kits to Florida, which was distributed by Convoy of Hope and other nonprofit partners. Kits containing trash bags, paper towels, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, scouring pads, gloves and N95 masks will be distributed to those in need and those cleaning up after the storm.
“During this difficult time, we stand ready to help all those who are coping with the damage left behind. , resources, relief and support,” said Shannon Gerber, executive director of the Home Depot Foundation.
Home Depot's Hurricane Command Center operates 24 hours a day to direct more than 600 truckloads of emergency supplies, including generators, gas cylinders, extension cords, batteries, tarps, lanterns, plywood, drywall, and water, into the hurricane's path. It was shipped to a nearby store. We have moved emergency items to the store so that customers can take them out immediately.
More than 100 Home Depot stores were forced to close when Hurricane Ian made landfall, so the tech team was stationed outside the strike zone to help get customers back in business as soon as possible.
Employees and managers in other parts of the state are stepping in to support these businesses, allowing employees living in affected areas to focus on their homes and families.
The Homer Fund, The Home Depot Employee Relief Fund, will provide immediate financial assistance to affected employees in need of safe shelter, food and clothing during an evacuation.
To date, the Homer Foundation has contributed more than $1.1 million to help employees affected by natural disasters in 2022.
