Mary Kay Ash Foundation Raises $258K in 21st Annual MK5K to Empower Women and Fund Cancer Research

10/15/2025

The Mary Kay Ash Foundation has transformed Addison, Texas, into a sea of pink during the 21st Annual MK5K event. The energy extended nationwide, with Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants hosting their own fundraising activities in cities and communities spanning nearly every U.S. state and territory.

Participants joined the cause by running, walking, cycling, or finding creative ways to compete in the annual fundraiser, which has already generated more than $250,000 this year — with donations continuing through October 31. The Foundation channels these funds into pioneering cancer research, clinical trials for women-related cancers, and annual grants to nonprofit organizations committed to ending domestic violence.

Since its founding in 1996, the Mary Kay Ash Foundation has donated over $98 million to organizations that share its mission to promote women’s health and safety. Beyond funding, the Foundation supports educational outreach, advocacy initiatives, and legislative efforts to ensure every woman can thrive safely and confidently.

“Every year, we race to make a real difference in women’s lives,” said Jessica Bair, great-granddaughter of founder Mary Kay Ash. “It’s inspiring to watch participation and fundraising grow year after year. The MK5K is about empowering all women — not just those who continue my great-grandmother’s vision. The support from sponsors, donors, volunteers, and virtual runners nationwide is truly incredible.”

Virtual participation has become an essential part of the event’s success in recent years, expanding its reach and impact far beyond Addison.

“There’s something deeply powerful about watching thousands of women and their families come together — in person and online — for the MK5K,” said Anne Crews, Vice President of Public Affairs at Mary Kay Inc. and a member of the Mary Kay Ash Foundation Board. “This isn’t just a race; it’s a symbol of unity, hope, and our unwavering commitment to advancing women’s health and safety through research and advocacy.”

The Foundation celebrated remarkable achievements from this year’s event, setting the pace for the next MK5K® on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Making an Impact Beyond the Race

The collaboration includes training webinars, downloadable resources, and short educational videos designed to help individuals recognize and respond to abuse.
  • $100,000 Grant to Breast Cancer Research: The Foundation provided funding to the Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation Amy Selkirk Breast Cancer Research Fund to continue a groundbreaking clinical trial led by Dr. Joyce O’Shaughnessy. The study examines the role of weight loss inhibitors in preventing breast cancer recurrence among overweight patients.
  • $400,000 Multi-Year Grant for Cancer Detection: The Foundation also awarded a major grant to the Texas Cancer Interception Institute, a first-of-its-kind program leveraging advanced biomarker technology and blood-based assays (ctDNA) for early cancer detection and improved treatment outcomes.
  • Nearly $3 Million Awarded in 2025: Across the country, the Foundation distributed almost $3 million in grants supporting cancer research and domestic violence shelters.
