The sustainable efforts of CEMEX to help the poor in creating their dream houses, through affordable solutions and building material has been rewarded by the Fortune List recognition.


CEMEX Finds The 16th Place On Fortune’s Recognition List
Dailycsr.com – 20 August 2015 – The list of Fortune’s “Change the World” has added another name of CEMEX, S.A.B. de C.V., whereby bestowing upon it a rank among fifty recognised companies in the world who affected “sizable impact on major global social or environmental problems as part of their competitive strategy”. CEMEX holds the sixteenth place among the fifty, being the sole construction company that is based at Latin America.
 
The “Patrimonio Hoy program” conducted by CEMEX earned a leverage over two hundred other nominees. The editor of Fortune, Allan Murray acknowledges that Fortune aims:
“...to shine a spotlight on companies that have made significant progress in addressing major social problems as part of their core business strategy.”
 
Murray also believes that:
“...business in pursuit of profit still offers the best hope of addressing many of mankind's most deeply rooted problems. Companies that are making genuine efforts to change the world for the better should be encouraged.”
 
Many academic, business and non-profit organisation experts from all over the world came together with FSG, “a non-profit social impact consulting firm” and Fortune to select the befitting candidates and enlist their names. The selection process was based on “four criteria” which saw the level innovation involvement in a business, measured the impacts made on “important social challenges, gauzed the “company’s profitability and competitive advantage” being contributed from the “shared-value activities” and finally scrutinised the significance that created on the efforts of shared value to the “overall business”. The C.E.O of CEMEX, Fernando A. Gonzalez states:
“We are proud to be included in Fortune’s Change the World list. This recognition reinforces our commitment to continue working everyday to build a better future.”
 
The BusinessWire reports about the Patrimonio Hoy programme of CEMEX, whereby it writes that
“...(it) provides low-income families living in urban and semi-urban areas with access to building materials, as well as microfinancing, technical advice, and logistical support to assist participants in building their own homes.”
 
Besides helping houses and providing shelter to the poor the project also strives to improve the infrastructure of local public.
