Dailycsr.com – 27 November 2019 – The “Corporate Citizenship Center” of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation in collaboration with the “University of Pittsburgh” conducted an “interactive tour” on October 1, 2019, wherein various corporate leaders visited “different companies and organizations in the greater Pittsburgh area” which proves the city’s journey from being the “heart of U.S. steel manufacturing to a nationally significant example of sustainable business”.

The corporate sector of Pittsburgh seems to have created “a perfect” image of a system what whole embraces circular economy as well as sustainability in all its action through hyper-efficient buildings, sustainable manufacturing, “circular clothing and fashion”, besides eliminating “food waste” and innovating in energy sector.

The first site visited during the interactive tour, was the “Tower at PNC Plaza”, which happens to be the “headquarters of one of the largest financial institutions in the U.S.” The Tower, rising in the “heart of downtown Pittsburgh”, has received the “LEED Platinum status” which marks the “highest certification” of the “U.S. Green Building Council”.

The skyscraper was built by Gensler, a “renowned sustainable architecture firm”, and brought together various “cutting-edge energy efficient and smart building technologies” such as “adaptive HVAC systems” which enables the building to “breathe” the natural air, along with “automated blinds and window tinting to limit overwarming from sunlight, an on-site stormwater reuse system, and locally-sourced building materials”.

PNC continues to hold on to its strong sustainability commitments over a long period of time, while the Tower sends a strong message to its stakeholders as it translates its sustainable goals into practices, which “should be a center piece of good business”.
