Maryam Hallaj Receives Scholarship After Fleeing Syria & Battling Against All Odds
Dailycsr.com – 07 July 2016 – On Wednesday, the 6th of July 2016, Ethicalperformance announced that the company of GSK will be awarding a “GSK Opportunity Scholarship” to Maryam Hallaj as the latter came out strong overcoming all adverse circumstances. Hallaj is a Temple University student.

The story of Maryam Hallaj was originally published on “Philly Voice ”. Hallaj recalls her escape from Syria about five years ago. She remembered how she fled her country along with her family while as possession they had only “a half-full suitcase in her hand”.

Syria was then moving towards civil war as a result of “nationwide protests” that called for the “ouster of President Bashar Assad”. Sensing the conflict inching closer towards Aleppo, the parents of Maryam Hallaj thought of leaving the country and returning to the United States. The entire families were confined within their house walls; while occasionally the thundering knells of machine guns came piercing the silent air outside.
