Dailycsr.com – 14 October 2019 – Whirlpool Corporation has been included in the distinguished companies list of “2019 Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) North America Index”. The said recognition marks Whirlpool’s longstanding commitment towards “sustainable business practices”.

However, this is not the first time that the home appliance maker appeared in the said index. As per the company’s press release it “has been recognized on the DJSI 13 of the past 14 years”. The year, the index results were revealed by “S&P Dow Jones Indices” and RobecoSAM, the former is counted among the “leading index providers” in the world while the latter is a specialist in “Sustainable Investing”.

Whirlpool has set a record of making improvement over consecutive years in the “Household Durables industry”. When it comes to Whirlpool’s “zero waste to landfill” goal, the company has made a continued accelerated progress in the recent years while strengthening the renewable energy commitments. As per its press release, it is among the largest American “users of on-site wind energy” in Fortune 500 companies.

The Director of Global Sustainability at Whirlpool Corporation, Ron Voglewede said:
“Whirlpool Corporation's commitment to sustainability began half a century ago. Our inclusion on this list is an honor, and an incredibly important recognition of the progress we continue to make in our constant pursuit to improve lives at home. Our sustainability commitments and practices position Whirlpool for long-term success, and we are proud of all we have achieved in developing more sustainable products, facilities and operations across our supply chain and plants.”

In fact, the “2018 Corporate Sustainability Report” of Whirlpool informed that the company has reached 30% “absolute emission reduction goals from products and plants by 2025” in comparison to 2005 figures. The said set of goals was set to surpass the reduction targets set in line with the original Paris Accord commitments of the U.S.

While, the ESG Rating’s Head at RobecoSAM, Manjit Jus said:
“We congratulate Whirlpool Corporation for being included in the DJSI North America. The SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment has again raised the bar in identifying those companies best-positioned to address future sustainability challenges and opportunities. This year – which marks the 20th anniversary of the DJSI – record corporate interest in the SAM CSA reflects the enduring relevance of the DJSI for measuring and advancing ESG practices.”
