Revolutionizing Arts Education: Agnes Gund's Studio in a School Transforms NYC Public Schools
Introducing an Exciting Partnership: KeyBank Foundation Boosts Studio in a School Association's Impact in Cleveland

Cleveland, get ready for an extraordinary boost in early learning and arts education! The KeyBank Foundation is proud to announce a game-changing $100,000 grant awarded to the Studio in a School Association, supporting their incredible Studio Institute Cleveland. With this generous funding, the Studio Institute will take their work to new heights, focusing on early learning, elementary school arts education, and college internships in the arts.

Through dynamic programmatic partnerships, the Studio Institute has already made a significant investment in arts education in Cleveland. They have joined forces with the Rainey Institute for their Head Start early learning initiative, collaborated with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) for their elementary school arts programs, and teamed up with local universities and cultural organizations for their Arts Intern program catering to college students.

Thanks to the KeyBank Foundation's support, the Studio Institute can now expand their partnership with Cleveland State University, bringing scholarships to the Arts Interns program and increasing the number of available internships. This expansion opens up remarkable opportunities for students from diverse cultural backgrounds to access internships that were once out of reach. By participating in these internships, students will enhance their workplace skills, explore potential career paths, and experience invaluable personal growth.

But that's not all! The grant will also fuel the expansion of the Studio Institute's reach, forging new school partnerships and establishing early-grade residencies with CMSD and other esteemed early learning centers. With these exciting developments, the Studio Institute aims to create a thriving artistic ecosystem that nurtures the talents of Cleveland's young learners, empowering them to unleash their full creative potential.

Get ready to witness the transformative power of arts education as the KeyBank Foundation and the Studio in a School Association join forces to shape a brighter future for Cleveland's students. Together, they will inspire, uplift, and cultivate the artistic minds of tomorrow.

“As an organization whose founder was born and raised in Cleveland, we could not be prouder to join the family of organizations supported by the KeyBank Foundation,” said Tom Cahill, Studio Institute’s President.

“To work with the Cleveland arts and education community – its students, artists, teachers, and exceptional cultural institutions – is a privilege. We are grateful to the KeyBank Foundation for signaling their belief in the power of arts and culture to transform communities throughout Cleveland through supporting our work in the city.”

Unlocking the Creative Potential: How Agnes Gund Revolutionized Arts Education in NYC Public Schools

Step into the remarkable journey that started in 1977 when a visionary, Agnes Gund, hailing from the vibrant city of Cleveland, spearheaded a groundbreaking initiative known as Studio in a School. Faced with the devastating consequences of budget cuts that left arts education virtually non-existent in New York City public schools, Agnes Gund took a bold stand.

Driven by a passion for fostering creativity and recognizing the profound impact that artists can have on young minds, Agnes Gund set out on a mission to transform the educational landscape. Studio in a School was born—a trailblazing program that would bring talented artists directly into the classrooms, reigniting the artistic spirit that had been dimmed by financial constraints.

With Agnes Gund's unwavering determination and unwavering belief in the power of the arts, Studio in a School became a beacon of hope. It breathed life into the curriculum, infusing it with color, imagination, and boundless possibilities. Through this visionary initiative, students had the incredible opportunity to learn from professional artists, unleashing their own creative potential and fostering a lifelong love for the arts.

Today, Studio in a School stands as a testament to the transformative power of art education. It continues to ignite the imaginations of countless students, paving the way for a future filled with creativity, innovation, and self-expression. Agnes Gund's indelible mark on New York City's public schools has forever changed the educational landscape, reminding us all that the arts are not merely a luxury, but an essential element of a well-rounded education.

"Cleveland is where I had my first arts experiences. The Cleveland Museum and the community remain dear to my heart,” said Gund.

“This grant from KeyBank will make it possible for Studio Institute to recruit and hire more local artists, to expand our school and community partnership programs and to offer paid internships to more college students through our Arts Intern program, which also benefits local arts and culture organizations."

“KeyBank is excited to support the transformative work of Agnes Gund and the Studio Institute to provide visual arts education,” said Mattie Jones Hollowell, Corporate Responsibility Officer at KeyBank.
