An Added Incentive To Drive Electric Vehicles In 2019

12/31/2018

The “Clean Fuel Rewards” programme provides financial help to make EVs more affordable and in turn helps in cleaning the air around.

Dailycsr.com – 31 December 2018 – At present, in the market there are more EV vehicles to choose from than ever before, while the EV range keeps expanding. And Julia Roether reports that over thirty models of electric vehicles, such as “pickup truck and SUVs”, were part of the “Los Angeles Auto Show”.

In fact, with the wide variety of EV choice at hand, soon driving one would “become even more affordable”. From January 1, 2019 onward, Southern California Edison will offer customers a refund of “a $1,000” for either purchasing or leasing “a new or used all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle”. The refund scheme will be channelled through “SCE’s Clean Fuel Rewards” programme.

However, Julia Roether added that:
“Unlike most rebate programs, second and third EV owners can apply for a rebate. Customers who purchase an EV before Jan. 1, 2019 are eligible for a $450 rebate. These rebates are in addition to the $7,500 federal EV tax credit and any applicable California clean vehicle rebates”.

In the words of the Transportation Electrification Director at SCE, Katie Sloan:
“When drivers make the switch to an EV, not only do they contribute to cleaning the air we breathe, they also help us affect climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Transportation accounts for nearly half of California’s GHG emissions and more than 80 percent of its air pollution.
“Each mile driven using electricity from the grid helps reduce tailpipe emissions. Plus, EV owners also save money on maintenance and lower fuel costs. Fueling an EV is equivalent to paying less than $2 per gallon of gasoline.”

The “Low Carbon Fuel Standard Program” offered by the state of California facilitates the “Clean Fuel Rewards program” which supports the battle against climate change by promoting “clean vehicle fuels, like electricity”. Describing how the programme works, Roether wrote:
“SCE earns credits in the program when customers use electricity at home to charge their EVs. SCE then returns the value of these credits to EV customers through the Clean Fuel Rewards program”.
