Redeemed Years: A Survivor's Journey from Narcissistic Abuse

Many women who regularly attend church face abuse within their relationships, with studies indicating that about one in three are affected. Despite this, domestic abuse is often overlooked in faith-based communities and Christian marriage counseling. In Redeemed Years: From Narcissistic Darkness to Light, author Liberty Steele recounts her own journey through six years of emotional, verbal, and spiritual abuse in a Christian marriage, while also providing practical guidance for survivors seeking healing, freedom, and renewed hope.

Steele shares how she entered what she believed would be a faith-filled marriage as a 30-year-old teacher, only to become trapped in a relationship marked by manipulation, gaslighting, emotional control, and isolation. More than a personal memoir, the book serves as a practical resource, helping readers identify unhealthy relationship patterns, establish healthy boundaries, communicate effectively, navigate legal separation when necessary, and restore their faith after experiencing spiritual trauma.

"My goal is to reach as many people as possible with a message of hope and encouragement," Steele said. "I want them to know they can recognize abusive relationships and find the strength to leave, even if the church is unable to offer the support they need."

Following her own experience, Steele committed herself to supporting others recovering from abusive relationships and promoting greater awareness of abuse within faith communities. She now operates a self-help platform that offers educational resources and guidance for individuals working to overcome relationship trauma. Steele explains that narcissistic partners often misuse religious teachings about submission and forgiveness to manipulate and control their spouses, leaving many victims without meaningful support from church leaders. Through both her personal experiences and practical insights, she encourages readers to end destructive relationship cycles, rebuild confidence, and create healthier relationships rooted in mutual respect and healthy spiritual values.

"If this book can offer even a small measure of hope or healing to someone who feels isolated by narcissistic abuse, then every word I have written has been worthwhile," Steele added.
