UnitedHealth’s Project Sunshine’s Party Time brings cheers in East Harlem Asthma Centre of Excellence

08/05/2015

So as to provide asthma treatment to the underserved, UnitedHealth Group’s Project Sunshine created a party time event so as to dramatically reduce the incidence of asthma amongst children.

Sonia Manzano, a children’s book author, of Sesame Street fame, joined volunteers from the UnitedHealth Group for its – Project Sunshine’s ‘Party Time’ event at the East Harlem Asthma Center of Excellence (EHACE).

The event saw the participation of more than 40 young EHACE members joining in the celebration which had a summer theme replete with arts and crafts, games, face paintings and healthy summer snacks.

The “Party Time” event is just one of the several programs that UnitedHealth’s Project Sunshine has created in order to bring joyful fun to children and their family members as they receive counselling on education and for pediatric asthma.

As per available statistical data from the New York State Department of Health, compared to other neighbourhoods of the New York City, East Harlem has one of the highest incidents of asthma hospitalizations for children aged between 1-17.

EHACE is committed to reducing the number of asthma-related hospitalizations by as much as 50%, while increasing normal activity amongst children with no or poor control of their asthma.
