Dailycsr.com – 25 January 2019 – A revolutionary future of mobility with self-driving vehicles, for transportation of goods as well as for people, being cheaper is knocking at the door. The said future could become a reality “sooner” than we think.

The transportation industry is in transitional period as the population of city dwellers are on rapid growth the trend of “rideshare and public transit” are also becoming more frequent. “Autonomous Vehicles and Our New Mobility”, is a new book by “Black & Veatch”, which stated that more and more people are turning towards the service transport in the industry, instead of owning individual vehicles which, in fact, “no longer be as convenient” as “shared ridership” which the former also proves to be more cost-effective.

The shifting trend in the mobility sector also has an impact on the goods transportation, while shortage of drivers, efficiency and safety issues always remain a concern for the companies hauling “cargo on roadways” using either “heavy-duty semi-trucks” or “medium-duty trucks and vans”.

With the autonomous vehicles taking the lead, savings, otherwise spent on “safety, collision repair and operations”, could amount to billions, besides reduction “greenhouse gas emissions with AVs primarily built on the electric vehicle”. As per predictions made by the experts the tipping point for AVs whereby proving its efficiency over present vehicle formal could take place within the next “three to five years” time.

Talking about the new book, Black & Veatch said:
“Black & Veatch’s new eBook was developed to help all stakeholders understand and plan for AVs. The free download provides an analysis of market and societal factors accelerating AV adoption and the infrastructure requirements needed to enable this transportation evolution”.

Partnership is likely to drive forward the autonomous vehicle like other emerging technologies, while “timely collaboration” can act as the key for the industry to design a “supportive charging, electric utility, and communication networks. However, there needs to be a “regulatory framework” in the picture for encouraging innovation of these “essential digital infrastructure networks”, whereby enabling the “most significant transportation evolution” and making it operational in the near future.
