Entropy Inc., a subsidiary of Advantage Energy Ltd., has shared a corporate progress update on the construction, commissioning, and commercial launch of its Glacier Phase 2 co-generation and carbon capture and storage (CCS) project.
Located at Advantage's Glacier Gas Plant in Saddle Hills County, Alberta, Glacier Phase 2 combines a new 15-megawatt co-generation facility with an integrated CCS system. The installation captures emissions from both the gas turbine and approximately 30 MW of reciprocating engines that power compression operations at the site. Building on commercial carbon capture systems that have been operating since 2022, the latest phase expands CCS integration across a total of 45 MW of power generation and gas compression assets.

Glacier Phase 2 Project Highlights
- A 15 MW Solar T130 gas turbine has been installed, enabling dependable natural gas-based power generation supported by carbon capture technology.
- Under a 15-year power purchase agreement, Advantage will purchase 6 MW of electricity at a fixed rate of $85 per MWh. An independent engineering firm has assessed the electricity's lifecycle carbon intensity at 84 kilograms of CO₂ per MWh.
- The project is expected to significantly reduce emissions from the Glacier Gas Plant while providing low-carbon electricity for on-site operations and exporting excess generation to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) grid.
- Entropy's CCS technology is designed to capture emissions from all major previously unabated sources at the facility, with targeted CO₂ removal rates exceeding 90%.
- Including earlier development phases, the overall system is designed to capture and permanently store approximately 192,000 tonnes of CO₂ annually from eleven gas-fired compression engines (30 MW) and one 15 MW gas-fired turbine.
- More than 250,000 work hours were completed without a serious safety incident, including extensive work at height and multiple complex heavy-lift operations.
James Martin, Entropy's Chief Operating Officer, credited the company's contractors and Advantage Energy for the project's successful execution. He noted that close coordination allowed all interconnection work between facilities to be completed during the Glacier Gas Plant's tightly scheduled three-week maintenance turnaround without disrupting normal operations.

With commissioning finished, Entropy is transitioning Glacier Phase 2 into stable commercial operation. Verified performance data is expected to be released in the coming months through EntropyIQ, the company's real-time carbon monitoring and accounting platform, which measures captured CO₂ from process data and tracks every tonne from emission source to permanent storage.
Jarad Daniels, CEO of the Global CCS Institute, described Glacier Phase 2 as the first post-combustion CCS system applied to a gas turbine for power generation. He said the project demonstrates a scalable approach to delivering dependable, lower-carbon electricity while supporting both industrial competitiveness and emissions reduction objectives.

Entropy also highlighted recent provincial and federal policy developments that provide additional clarity on the regulatory and financial framework supporting carbon capture projects in Canada.
Key programs include the federal Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage Investment Tax Credit (CCUS ITC), Alberta's Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Investment Program (ACCIP), and the Saddle Hills County Carbon Capture Tax Incentive Bylaw. These initiatives are intended to improve the financial viability of CCS projects while reducing the cost of emissions reductions for both industry and consumers.
The company stated that the CCUS ITC and ACCIP remain central to the economics of its growing CCS portfolio. Entropy has invested more than $250 million in multiple Canadian carbon capture projects currently undergoing review by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). However, despite continued support for the programs, approval timelines have been considerably longer than anticipated, and the company has yet to receive funding through either initiative.
