Preparing before a hurricane approaches can help families remain safer, informed and connected when severe weather threatens their communities.

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Tropical Storm Isaias has formed in the Gulf and is forecast to strengthen rapidly, potentially becoming a hurricane by Thursday before moving northeast and north toward the northern Gulf Coast later in the week.

Although uncertainty remains over the storm’s precise path, strength and potential effects, the NHC has warned of a growing risk of dangerous winds and storm surge along parts of the northern Gulf Coast. Residents from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle are encouraged to follow weather updates and ensure their hurricane preparedness plans are ready.

T-Mobile Strengthens Hurricane Preparedness Efforts

T-Mobile is preparing its network and response teams for possible storm-related disruptions. The company’s teams are refuelling generators, preparing equipment and positioning resources ahead of potential impacts.

It is also using network management technologies, including Self-Organizing Network (SON) capabilities, to help maintain and optimize network performance as weather conditions change. AI-powered Dynamic CX technology provides another tool for anticipating shifts in network demand and adjusting capacity as needed.

Alongside these technical preparations, T-Mobile is coordinating with public safety organizations and emergency management agencies across the Gulf Coast to identify expected communications requirements and critical locations.

T-Priority Connectivity for First Responders

Eligible first responders and agencies can access 30 days of T-Priority service at no cost through a secondary SIM or eSIM on a compatible, unlocked device, or through loaner devices.

T-Priority is designed to provide prioritized access to T-Mobile’s network during periods of congestion. Its connectivity options also include satellite service, offering an additional way to communicate when conventional terrestrial network coverage is unavailable.

As the storm forecast develops, T-Mobile says it is prepared to deploy additional portable generators and mobile network resources where required. These may include Satellite Cell on Light Trucks (SatCOLTs), drones, and community support trucks and trailers.

The goal is to help maintain communications for customers, emergency personnel and communities during potential hurricane-related disruptions.

Get Your Technology Ready for a Hurricane

Alongside network preparations, individuals can take several practical steps to improve their own emergency readiness.

Charge mobile phones, tablets and backup batteries before severe weather arrives. Enable emergency alerts and download essential information that may be needed if internet or mobile connectivity becomes unreliable. Keep charging cables and portable power banks with emergency supplies, and protect electronic devices from water and other potential damage.

During a hurricane or other emergency, follow evacuation instructions and safety guidance issued by local authorities.

Create a Family Emergency Plan

Effective hurricane preparedness involves more than gathering supplies. Families should agree on how to communicate and respond if they become separated or need to leave home quickly.

Important questions to consider include:

  • Where should family members meet if they become separated?
  • How will everyone communicate during a network outage?
  • Who will serve as an out-of-area contact?
  • What arrangements are needed if evacuation becomes necessary?
  • Does the plan account for medication, accessibility requirements, children, older relatives and pets?

T-Mobile’s Family Emergency Plan can help households document these arrangements and keep essential information in one place.

Families can download the plan from T-Mobile’s media resources, complete it together and ensure each member can access a copy before severe weather arrives.

With the storm forecast subject to change, combining T-Mobile’s network preparations with practical household planning can help Gulf Coast residents prepare for potential disruptions and stay informed as conditions evolve.
