Southwire Joins ENERGY STAR Program: A Leap Towards Enhanced Energy Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability

10/31/2023

In line with its ambition to be at the forefront of ecological responsibility, Southwire has become a member of the ENERGY STAR® Program, an initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The ENERGY STAR® Program, a widely acknowledged and esteemed voluntary scheme managed by the U.S. EPA and backed by the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) and Natural Resources Canada, is dedicated to enhancing energy efficiency in buildings, plants, and homes.

Southwire’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Norman Adkins, expressed his enthusiasm about collaborating with ENERGY STAR, a brand renowned for its focus on energy efficiency. He mentioned that some of their Topaz® lights are everyday examples of this commitment. He further added that through its resources and cooperation with other companies with a similar dedication to energy efficiency, ENERGY STAR aids its industrial partners. As part of this collaboration, Southwire intends to accelerate the improvement of energy efficiency across its operations.

Southwire’s Growing Green initiative reflects the company’s goal to minimize its environmental impact. The company is deeply committed to sustainable growth and actively incorporates environmental considerations into its main operations.

In July 2020, Southwire set a Carbon Zero target to eliminate or offset all of its Scope 1 (related to fuel combustion) and Scope 2 (related to electricity consumption) greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.

As a participant in the program, Southwire will persist in its pledge to safeguard the environment by continually enhancing its energy performance.
“At Southwire, our vision is to make our company sustainable for the next 100 years and beyond, and our partnership with ENERGY STAR is a testament to those efforts,” said Burt Fealing, Executive Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer.

“Southwire maintains a deep commitment to responsible growth and actively integrating environmental priorities into our core operations, and we look forward to creating a more sustainable planet through our partnership with ENERGY STAR.”

“By making a commitment to improved energy efficiency, Southwire is on the way to enhancing its bottom line while protecting our environment,” said Cindy Jacobs, Chief of EPA’s ENERGY STAR Commercial and Industrial Branch.
