Principal Financial Group Highlights 2024 Impact and 2025 Vision for Sustainability and Inclusion

08/05/2025

A sincere thank you to Dan for his ten years of impactful leadership across many aspects of our organization - specially in upholding our mission, strengthening our culture, and championing our core values.

Throughout my 35 years with Principal, I’ve seen our thinking evolve significantly - particularly in how we view the broader role we play and the growing importance of aligning our strategies with both current and emerging customer needs. Dan’s recap of the last five years was an excellent reflection, and I’d like to take a moment to celebrate key achievements from 2024 and share a look ahead.

2024 Milestones
Empowering Communities
The Principal Foundation provided $18.8 million in support to help remove financial barriers and improve access to critical services. Employees, advisors, and retirees collectively contributed nearly 100,000 volunteer hours across the globe—further demonstrating our shared commitment to making a difference.

Expanding Client Solutions
To meet the rising demand for responsible investing, we introduced six new sustainable investment products. As a result, 63% of our total assets under management now qualify as sustainable.

Opening Doors for Talent
We’re proud of the apprenticeship program launched in July—a year-long initiative offering individuals without a four-year degree a meaningful path to full-time roles at Principal. We've also made strong progress toward our goals of broadening access to our core employee development programs, setting our teams up for long-term growth and success.

Driving Environmental Progress
We’ve continued our journey to reduce environmental impact by cutting emissions, and lowering energy, waste, and water usage across our operations.

Looking Ahead to 2025 and Beyond
Our unwavering commitment to financial security remains at the heart of everything we do. We’ll deepen our efforts to understand and address the barriers to financial inclusion, both for individuals and businesses worldwide. A major part of this includes amplifying the reach of our Global Financial Inclusion Index, now in its fourth edition, set to release later this year.

As we embrace emerging technologies like AI, our approach remains thoughtful and measured. We’re prioritizing innovation that enhances efficiency and customer value—while remaining attentive to ethical considerations and potential risks.

We'll also continue monitoring evolving regulatory landscapes, especially those related to sustainability, and tracking shifts in customer expectations.

A key focus for 2025 will be increasing employee engagement and enriching the overall workplace experience—critical drivers of performance and long-term success.

Being a responsible company is integral to who we are at Principal. It’s been central to our legacy for 145 years and will continue to shape our future. While we don’t seek recognition, it’s deeply rewarding when our efforts are acknowledged. Already in 2025, we’ve been honored as:
One of Ethisphere’s World’s Most Ethical Companies for the 14th consecutive year A JUST Company, ranked #1 in the insurance industry and 11 overall
These recognitions are particularly meaningful because they reflect our steadfast dedication to values-driven leadership. As we move forward into 2025 and beyond, those values will continue to guide our progress and inform how we rise to meet the challenges ahead.
