Alliant Energy Will 100% Replace Its Light-Duty Vehicle Fleet With Electric Vehicles

The further aim is to remove coal entirely from “fleet generation” and to turn net-zero in CO2 emission while electricity production.


Dailycsr.com – 25 September 2020 - Alliant Energy is driven by purposeful strategy which facilitate customers serving besides building strong communities, whereby the company announced that by 2030, 100% of its “active light-duty fleet vehicles” will be powered by electricity.
 
In the words of the vice president of Alliant Energy’s Business Planning, JP Brummond:
“Our customers and the communities we are privileged to serve benefit from our plan to electrify our fleet vehicles and our commitment to a cleaner energy future. By transitioning to electric vehicles, we reduce the total cost of ownership of our fleet and reduce emissions. The savings are an element of our ongoing focus to maintain affordable rates for our customers while also contributing to a cleaner environment for all to enjoy.”
 
Electric vehicles provide various advantages like “lower total cost of ownership”, cuts down on fuel costs as well as maintenance costs and have “fewer direct emissions”. In order to arrive at this goal, the company of Alliant Energy will be replacing its “half-ton pickups, sedans, SUVs, passenger vans and forklifts”, with” Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV)”.
 
Moreover, this goal has been highlighted in “Alliant Energy’s 2020 Corporate Responsibility Report” and comes under its “Clean Energy Vision”. The further aim is to remove coal entirely from “its generation fleet by 2040”. Additionally, the company also revealed about its “new aspirational goal” of turning “net-zero” on CO2 emission through its electricity generation by 2050.
 
According to the press release of Alliant Energy, the announcement “coincides with National Climate Week and National Drive Electric Week. During these high-profile, awareness-generating weeks, Alliant Energy will participate in conversations about how renewable energy benefits the environment, customers and communities”.
