06/20/2025

With storm season nearing, Duke Energy is ramping up its support for Florida residents and communities to ensure they're ready for hurricanes and other emergency situations.

The Duke Energy Foundation—backed by the company’s shareholders—has recently provided $163,000 in grants focused on emergency preparedness and resilience. These funds have been distributed to 12 Florida-based organizations and agencies to support a range of initiatives, including placing automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in busy public spaces, offering CPR training, educating communities, supplying storm kits to senior citizens, upgrading weather tracking systems, and enhancing resources for emergency shelters.

"Even though storm season has officially begun, building strong and prepared communities is something we work on throughout the year," said Melissa Seixas, President of Duke Energy Florida. "We appreciate the ongoing dedication of our first responders, emergency personnel, and local agencies who continue to help our communities stay informed and ready. Preparation is our strongest protection."

The following organizations received grant funding:
  • American Heart Association – $50,000
  • Wakulla County Sheriff's Office – $5,000
  • Franklin County Board of County Commissioners – $8,000
  • Lake County Board of County Commissioners – $5,000
