Paul Skenes MLB Debut Patch Card Unveiled at DICK’S House of Sport

05/15/2025

Fans and collectors gathered at DICK’S House of Sport (HOS) in Pittsburgh on Friday, May 9, for a rare opportunity to witness a moment in sports history. The store revealed a one-of-a-kind MLB Debut Patch card featuring Paul Skenes.

To manage the crowd, HOS Pittsburgh handed out 500 wristbands to individuals eager to view the card up close. Among them was Travis Rogan from Beaver, Pennsylvania, who claimed the first spot in line.

“I’m amazed at the detail and effort put into this display,” Rogan said. “Seeing the card in person is unreal!”

An additional 500 wristbands were distributed to fans on both Saturday, May 10, and Sunday, May 11.

According to Javier Perez, Executive Director at HOS Pittsburgh, this exhibit is about more than just showcasing a rare collectible.

“This event reflects DICK’S dedication to delivering memorable experiences,” Perez explained. “This card serves as a powerful symbol of community for both local fans and collectors.”

DICK’S acquired the highly sought-after 2024 baseball card through a March auction hosted by Fanatics Collect Premier Auction. The card includes a fragment of the jersey worn by the Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher during his MLB debut, along with his signature.

“We’re proud to bring this extraordinary card to Pittsburgh,” said Ed Stack, Executive Chairman of DICK’S. “It honors Skenes’ remarkable skill and gives our customers a unique chance to connect with baseball history firsthand.”

The card now resides in a newly constructed area on the ground level of HOS Pittsburgh. It also marks the beginning of a new initiative—the Collectors Clubhouse—dedicated to trading cards and sports memorabilia. This new space aims to inspire future generations of athletes and collectors, launching in Pittsburgh and four other HOS locations.

“This creates new opportunities for events, storytelling, and connection,” Perez added. “It strengthens our role as a community hub, not just a retail space.”
