Observed by over a billion people worldwide, Earth Day stands as the largest environmental event on the planet, and it continues to inspire more AMD employees each year to take meaningful action toward environmental protection.
This year, AMD team members from around the world came together with a shared goal of promoting sustainability. Throughout March and April, Community Impact Volunteer Liaisons—supported by the Go Green Employee Resource Group (ERG)—coordinated a range of environmental initiatives across 24 of AMD's global locations to support sustainability education and conservation.
Over 2,000 employees across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Asia participated in more than 40 events sponsored by the company, with even more activities scheduled through May.
In North America, 15 AMD sites partnered with the nonprofit Neighborhood Forest to distribute 2,500 saplings and plants to children as part of an Earth Day educational initiative.
Volunteers in Armenia, Bellevue, Iasi, Markham, Shanghai, and Suzhou contributed to local greening efforts by planting 740 trees and 70 plants. Meanwhile, teams across the U.K. enhanced community gardens by planting flowers, removing invasive weeds, and revitalizing public green spaces.
AMDers also came together to clean up parks, waterways, and shorelines in cities such as Austin, Fishkill, Ottawa, Rochester, Singapore, and Shanghai, removing trash and helping to restore these natural areas for future generations.
Embracing the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling, AMD employees in Santa Clara and San Jose crafted dog toys from fabric scraps for animal shelters. In Singapore, volunteers joined forces with the nonprofit Fridge Restock to sort and pack surplus food for distribution to local community fridges, tackling the issue of food waste.
Employees also engaged in reflective and educational experiences that emphasized sustainability. These included sessions on minimalist living to foster a deeper connection with nature, and creative workshops where participants made moss-based art to promote mindfulness and environmental appreciation.
Through these diverse efforts, AMDers demonstrated a collective commitment to environmental responsibility while encouraging sustainable habits in both their professional and personal lives.
“We are extremely proud of our global AMD workforce for their commitment to environmental action and look forward to continued progress in sustainability efforts across all our sites,” said Anne Fertitta, Senior Manager of Community Impact at AMD.
