Celebrating Diversity at GoDaddy: Julia's Journey in Tech & Leadership

Can you introduce yourself and explain your role at GoDaddy?
Hello! I’m Julia, and I work as a Software Engineer at GoDaddy. My journey began in the summer of 2019 when I interned with the M365 Provisioning team. I officially joined the same team full-time in February 2020. Shortly after starting, I became involved with GD Asians, one of our Employee Resource Groups. In August 2023, I stepped into a leadership position as the Communications Lead, and by October 2024, I took on the role of Co-President.

As Co-President of GD Asians, which projects or initiatives are you most passionate about, and why?
This year, a major focus has been growing our membership and organizing events that better accommodate the schedules of our colleagues in the APAC region. Many team members based in Asia have asked for events that align more closely with their time zones. With the expansion of our teams in India, it’s been important to make sure everyone feels included. Thankfully, we’ve had incredible support from our Indian members, who have stepped up to help host APAC-friendly events. I'm really looking forward to the exciting activities we have lined up for May—I believe our members in the region will truly feel the effort we’re putting into making these events accessible and engaging.

What message do you hope others take from Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month?
My hope is that colleagues, friends, and neighbors walk away with a greater understanding and appreciation for the wide-ranging diversity within the AANHPI community. While the term “AANHPI” was created to foster unity among various groups, it actually encompasses a broad spectrum of cultures and identities—ranging from East and Southeast Asians to South Asians, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. Each group brings its own unique traditions and stories that deserve individual recognition. I encourage everyone, whether part of the community or an ally, to take time to learn about and appreciate the richness within each culture that makes up our collective identity.

What does AANHPI Heritage Month mean to you, and how do you personally observe it?
To me, AANHPI Heritage Month is more about reflection and acknowledgment than typical celebration. It's a meaningful time to recognize the achievements and contributions of our community to the broader fabric of American life. While it’s not something I celebrate with family in the same way I would Lunar New Year or Mid-Autumn Festival, I deeply value the educational events and celebrations hosted by organizations during this month. I’m especially grateful that GoDaddy supports our ERG by giving us space to organize meaningful events—those gatherings are how I mark the month.

What do you value most about GoDaddy’s company culture?
What really sets GoDaddy apart for me is the people. The company culture is shaped by the genuine, skilled, and supportive individuals I work with every day. Whether it's within the Productivity team or through my involvement with GD Asians' leadership, I’m constantly surrounded by talented and thoughtful colleagues. It’s an environment where I feel encouraged to grow, and I truly believe it's the ideal place for me to continue developing as an Engineer.
