Private employers added 63,000 jobs in February, while wages rose 4.5% compared to the same time last year, according to the February ADP National Employment Report, created by ADP Research in partnership with the Stanford Digital Economy Lab.
The ADP National Employment Report provides an independent snapshot of the U.S. labor market by analyzing anonymized weekly payroll information from more than 26 million private-sector workers across the country. In addition, ADP’s Pay Insights examines over 15 million individual wage adjustments each month. By combining employment data with pay trends, the report offers a detailed and timely overview of conditions in the private-sector workforce.
Dr. Nela Richardson, Chief Economist at ADP, noted that hiring activity increased and wage growth stayed strong, particularly for employees who remained in their current roles. However, she explained that hiring growth has been concentrated in only a handful of industries. As a result, workers who switch employers are not experiencing widespread salary gains, and the pay advantage typically associated with changing jobs dropped to its lowest level on record in February.
