CenterPoint Energy is mobilizing personnel to help communities along Florida’s Northwest Coast recover from outages caused by Hurricane Isaias. As part of a mutual assistance initiative supporting Florida Power & Light, the company has deployed 105 line workers and released approximately 150 contractor line workers and 100 vegetation management specialists to assist with power restoration in Pensacola. The combined teams are expected to contribute to recovery operations over the next several days.
Jason Fabre, Vice President of Distribution and Special Response at CenterPoint Energy, said the company began closely monitoring the storm late the previous week and took early steps to prepare for potential impacts. He noted that teams had been tracking the system and making preparations to protect and support customers and communities throughout Greater Houston.
Fabre added that CenterPoint was pleased to provide assistance to neighboring communities in another state during a challenging period. He said the company’s workforce of 355 employees and contractors would bring the same dedication, concentration, and commitment to restoring electricity along Florida’s coast that it demonstrates when responding to outages at home.
CenterPoint Energy Supports Florida’s Recovery Efforts Mutual assistance is an established practice within the utility sector, enabling electric companies to support one another after severe weather events and other emergencies. When a utility experiences widespread damage or service disruptions, it can request additional personnel from other providers to help assess damage, repair infrastructure, and restore electricity.
This cooperation works both ways. When CenterPoint Energy customers experience major outages, utility crews from other parts of the country may also be called upon to help accelerate restoration.
By sharing personnel and expertise, utilities can strengthen emergency response capabilities, coordinate recovery operations more effectively, and return power to affected customers as safely and efficiently as possible. These collaborative efforts demonstrate the importance of industry partnerships in helping communities recover from severe storms and other disruptive events.
