Zimmerman’s battle to cure MS patients and to help them out.

Dailycsr.com – 26 October 2016 – Ryan Zimmerman is known for rising up to challenges. However, his challenges on the ball-field seem small beside the challenge thrust upon him by life as his mother, Cheryl was diagnosed of “Multiple Scleroris” when Zimmerman just turned eleven.

The said chronic disease takes hold of the “central nervous system” and disrupts the information flow to the brain as well as the network channels within the brain. As a result, Zimmerman and Shawn, his brother, were forced to “take on extra responsibilities” for supporting the family and their mom in particular.

Watching his mother suffer, Zimmerman made the decision to help out other patients suffering from MS a mission of his life. Keeping the approximate figure of four hundred thousand Americans, who are affected by MS, including his mother, Zimmerman started the ‘ziMS Foundation”, in the year of 2006.

The “ziMS Foundation” organises various programmes all through the year for fund raises purpose, beside which the events also help in spreading awareness about MS. The money this raised goes to different organisations like “the UVA Department of Neurology, National MS Societies, MS Now, VCU Multiple Sclerosis Treatment and Research Center, Myelin Repair Foundation and MS Kids Camp”.

The events organised by ziMS Foundation usually take place in “bowling alleys, golf courses and even Nationals Park”. In the coming month of November, the foundation will organise the “11th Annual Charity Gala at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hilton” which will come together with the “11th Annual Golf Tournament”.

The participants will carry out their day on the course with Zimmerman, while there will be an “awards dinner” at night followed by a “silent auction”. Moreover, Ethical Performance reports:
“To date, the ziMS Foundation has contributed more than $1.5 million to MS chapters and research centers through the golf tournament and other fund-raising activities”.
