Tera Ladner: Aflac’s Cybersecurity Leader Recognized as 2023 Women in IT Security Power Player

11/22/2023

In October, Tera Ladner, who serves as the Vice President of Risk Management and Governance at Aflac Global Security, was honored as one of the 2023 Women in IT Security Power Players by SC Media. This recognition is given to the top 20 female leaders in the cybersecurity and information risk sector in North America for their leadership, contributions, and influence.

Ladner joined Aflac seven years ago, bringing with her a diverse set of skills and experiences, including a marketing degree and a wealth of knowledge in information governance, which eventually led her to obtain a law degree. She attributes her diverse career journey as the foundation for her current role in global security governance, where she leads a team responsible for managing regulatory processes, safeguarding information, identifying organizational efficiencies, and more.

However, Ladner wasn’t the only one to receive an accolade that day. Aflac was also recognized as a 2023 CSO50 Award honoree by CSO from Foundry for its commitment to security and risk management excellence. This award is given to a select group of organizations that have demonstrated exceptional business value and thought leadership through their security projects and initiatives.

Ladner’s team contributed to a cross-functional project titled “Feathers and Firewalls: Aflac’s Zero Trust Approach,” which earned Aflac this esteemed recognition. The program, aimed at enhancing security, simplifying network architecture, and reducing costs, is built on the principle of consistent controls with all communication passing through a cloud-based common exchange. This zero-trust security model, also known as zero-trust architecture, provides a framework for securing infrastructure and data in today’s digital transformation era.
