Sysco’s Sustainability Milestones: Diverse Suppliers, Responsible Sourcing, and EV Expansion in FY23

12/01/2023

Sysco Corporation, a global leader in foodservice distribution (traded as NYSE:SYY), has introduced its “One Planet. One Table.” collection. This collection is recognized as the foodservice sector’s most extensive range of certified and sustainability-focused products.

The “One Planet. One Table.” collection from Sysco comprises more than 3,000 products spanning 15 categories. These products are:
  • Supported by one of over 20 top sustainability certifications and standards,
  • Part of Sysco’s sustainability pledges for seafood or fresh produce, and
  • Comprised of plant-based alternative proteins.

“At Sysco, we're taking action to protect the health of our one and only planet. We have a growing market of customers looking for more sustainable products. Whether it is to meet their own sustainability commitments or consumer demand, they are interested in where their food came from and how it was produced,” said Neil Russell, Sysco’s SVP and Chief Administrative Officer.

“Under One Planet. One Table., Sysco customers in the U.S. can now easily discover more sustainable options for their menus with the new capabilities in our e-commerce platform, Sysco Shop.”

“We are cultivating partnerships and encouraging others to join us at the table in solving climate and sustainability challenges together,” said Victoria Guitierrez, Sysco’s Senior Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer.

“Sysco is leveraging its scale and position at the center of the food ecosystem to help drive change in a way that will compel others to follow. By making it easier for customers to discover and shop for more sustainable options, we can increase demand and inspire more suppliers to produce products more sustainably.”

This news coincides with the publication of Sysco’s 2023 Sustainability and DEI reports, which underscore the company’s advancements towards its objectives in three key sustainability areas: People, Products, and Planet. Noteworthy achievements from FY23 include:
  • Allocating more than $280 million through FY23 towards the company’s $500 million Global Good Goal, which included the donation of over 17 million meals worldwide in the past year.
  • Surpassing its target of boosting expenditure with certified diverse suppliers by 25%.
  • Realizing its objective of formulating responsible sourcing guidelines for five crucial commodities, with cocoa being identified as the fifth commodity, joining beef, soy, paper, and coffee.
  • Launching a unique Electric Vehicle (EV) Hub in Riverside, CA, and rolling out over 20 electric vehicles worldwide, along with 5 electric refrigerated trailers.
  • Going beyond its target for sustainable agriculture and broadening the program to encompass 14 fresh crops.
