Sustainable Urban Beekeeping: AllianceBernstein and Fifth + Broadway’s Innovative Partnership
In May 2023, a unique collaboration between Fifth + Broadway and AllianceBernstein (AB), a renowned global investment management and research firm, led to the establishment of a honeybee hive on the green deck of the 501 Commerce building. This initiative was carried out in association with Alvéole, a company specializing in urban beekeeping. The hive was set up just before National Bee Day on May 20, reflecting the shared commitment of Fifth + Broadway and AllianceBernstein to sustainability.

Alvéole, which sets up hives on city rooftops, was instrumental in installing this urban honeybee hive at the Nashville site. Thanks to sponsorship from AllianceBernstein, this habitat offers a safe haven for the country’s dwindling bee population in downtown Nashville.
Caroline Everett, AllianceBernstein’s Director of Corporate Responsibility, expressed her excitement about the beehive project with Fifth + Broadway, stating that it extends their sustainability efforts to the broader Nashville community.

In addition to the beehive, Alvéole has also created an online platform, MyHive, dedicated to “all things bees” at Fifth + Broadway. This website provides a global view of all the hives established by Alvéole. Each hive location has its own page with details such as the number of hives and bees, and the distance covered by the bees in a day. The site also notifies followers when the beekeeper will be working with the hives, allowing them to observe in real time. This platform enables the building’s occupants to stay updated on the hive, fostering ongoing interest in hive activity, pollination, and honey harvesting.
