Southern Company has been named the top employer in the United States on this year’s Military Times Best for Vets: Employers list. This is the second time the company has achieved the No. 1 position, highlighting its strong and ongoing commitment to recruiting, retaining and supporting veterans across the organization.

The Military Times Best for Vets designation is based on an independent, nationwide assessment that surveys hundreds of employers. Companies are evaluated on a range of factors, including veteran recruitment and onboarding, long-term retention and career growth opportunities, and programs that support veterans and military spouses.

“Being recognized as the No. 1 Best for Vets Employer reflects the deep respect we have for those who serve,” said Chris Womack, chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company. “Veterans bring invaluable leadership, focus and experience to our workforce, strengthening both our company and the communities we serve. We are committed to helping veterans successfully transition into civilian careers and continue to grow within our organization, and I’m proud that this dedication is embraced throughout Southern Company.”

Southern Company has a long history of supporting service members and their families through targeted hiring efforts, professional development programs and transition support initiatives. The company works closely with military organizations and participates in veteran-focused hiring programs to help service members pursue careers in the energy industry.

This includes a recent agreement with the U.S. Army Reserve’s Private Public Partnership signed in August. Southern Company’s efforts have earned widespread recognition, including a No. 2 overall ranking on the 2026 Military Friendly Employer list and designation as a Gold Employer for Military Veterans by the U.S. Department of Labor.
