9 billion gallons of water is used every day in the US for landscape irrigation purposes. Here’s how you can save water and money.

A little maintenance on your home irrigation system goes a long way. Cracked pipes can lead to costly leaks, and broken sprinkler heads can waste loads of water and be a costly money.
Here are a few facts on the usage of water for irrigation purposes
The usage of residential outdoor water across the United States accounts for nearly 9 billion gallons each day. This is mostly used for landscape irrigation. According to experts, 50% of the water used in outdoors is wasted due to evaporation, wind, or runoff caused by inefficient irrigation methods and systems. Homes with clock-timer-controlled irrigation systems use around 50% more water outdoors compared to homes without irrigation systems. Such systems can waste even more water if it’s programmed incorrectly, or in the event the sprinkler head is pointed in the wrong direction, or has a leak. A clock-timer-controlled irrigation system that isn’t properly programmed or maintained can waste as much as 25,000 gallons of water annually. A broken or missing sprinkler head could waste as much as 25,000 gallons of water and $280 over a six-month irrigation season.
Before you ramp up watering this season, spruce up your irrigation system by remembering these four simple steps - inspect, connect, direct and select.
