San Diego Offers Free Lunch For Children All Summer

08/18/2020

Neither registration nor “income verification” is required for the parents to pick up meals from the recreation centres.

Dailycsr.com – 18 August 2020 – The City of San Diego in partnership with the “San Diego Parks Foundation, Feeding San Diego” as well as the “Nourishing Neighbors program” of the Albertsons Companies offer their help in providing food to children.

Under the initiative “free lunches” are supplied for “children in need” on Tuesday and the commitment will continue all through the summer to support the community during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Members will have the option of picking up “prepared "to-go" lunch and breakfast” for children till the age of eighteen from a dozen of “recreation centers” in the city.

Neither registration nor “income verification” is required for the parents to pick up meals from the recreation centres wherein, keeping the safety in mind, the food supply will take place outside the buildings. However, parents will need to have “a facial covering” when they come to pick up meals while no children need to accompany them. In the words of the Director of San Diego’s “Parks and Recreation Department”, Andy Field:
“We are very pleased to be able to offer this important program to residents who need meals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Providing healthy food options for families with limited resources during the pandemic is especially important at this time.”

While, the Treasurer as well as the Founding Board Member of the “San Diego Parks Foundation”, Marcella Bothwell said:
“This help from Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions and their generous customers is the lifeline that we desperately need as the city responds to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are grateful to be part of Nourishing Neighbors Family. The support, partnership and generosity are truly making a difference.”
