Raising PBC Awareness Through Art: Gilead’s ‘All the Feelings’ Campaign

Living with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a rare and chronic liver condition, can often feel like a lonely journey, says Dilek, a mother of two from Germany who is living with the disease.

To help change that, Gilead has partnered with the PBC Foundation and Friends of the PBC Foundation to launch a new initiative called All the Feelings with PBC. This campaign highlights the personal stories of individuals affected by PBC through a series of expressive artworks created by Berlin-based artist Nour Khwies.

Nour’s artwork brings the emotional and physical challenges of living with PBC to life, using vivid imagery to reflect the realities faced by patients. Dilek was the first person Nour painted, and the artist shared her impression of the session.

“You can’t always see it from the outside,” Nour explains, “but beneath the surface, there’s sorrow, strength, and a reluctance to be a burden. That’s what I aimed to convey.”

By turning patient experiences into powerful visual expressions, the campaign seeks to raise awareness and foster greater understanding of PBC. The artworks will be displayed at medical conferences across Europe until 2026 and will eventually be auctioned to benefit the PBC Foundation.

“It’s essential to encourage open and authentic conversations,” says Carrie Frenette, Executive Director of Global Medical Affairs for Liver Diseases at Gilead. “This campaign helps ensure those voices are heard.”
