‘Pledging To Divert 90% Of Waste From Landfill’

Sysco capitalises on a “big opportunity” to turn its operation “environmental efficiency at every step”.


Dailycsr.com – 30 December 2018 – The distribution facilities under Sysco collect a wide variety of “food and nonfood items” which are also “refrigerated” and other times come as “frozen products”. These items are supplied via Sysko trucks, thousands of which are put into the service.
 
With the above mentioned scenario comes a “big opportunity” for driving “environmental efficiency at every step”. And talking about its commitments, Sysco said:
“We’re committed to reducing the carbon footprint of our fleet and operations and expanding the use of renewable and alternative energy sources. We’ve also pledged to divert 90 percent of waste from landfill”.

Describing itself, Sysco says that it is “the global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other customers who prepare meals away from home”. The products sold by Sysco are “equipment and supplies for the foodservice and hospitality industries”. It has over “67,000 associates” and operates from nearly “330 distribution facilities” across the globe, while serving in over “600,000 customer locations”.
 
On a concluding note, the company added that:
“For fiscal 2018 that ended June 30, 2018, the company generated sales of more than $58 billion”.
