Panasonic Avionics Partners with Spacesail to Expand Global LEO In-Flight Connectivity

02/04/2026

Panasonic Avionics Corporation, a global leader in in-flight engagement and connectivity (IFEC) solutions, announced at the Singapore Airshow that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Shanghai Spacesail Technologies to evaluate the integration of Spacesail’s Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network into Panasonic Avionics’ global in-flight connectivity platform.

Under the agreement, both companies will begin work immediately on plans to deliver LEO-based connectivity services to airlines and their passengers.

The collaboration will focus on utilizing Spacesail’s next-generation LEO constellation, which is being developed to offer high bandwidth and low latency broadband services for multiple industries worldwide. With Spacesail operating a LEO network over China, incorporating its capabilities into Panasonic Avionics’ global connectivity ecosystem will allow airlines to deliver uninterrupted LEO coverage across all flight routes.

This agreement marks another step forward in Panasonic Avionics’ strategy to provide high-performance, multi-orbit, and resilient connectivity solutions across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Spacesail’s constellation will enhance Panasonic Avionics’ existing LEO partnerships, including its collaboration with Eutelsat’s OneWeb network.

John Wade, Vice President of Connectivity at Panasonic Avionics, stated that airlines are increasingly seeking faster speeds, reduced latency, and more robust connectivity throughout every stage of flight. He noted that integrating Spacesail’s LEO network will expand global coverage, strengthen Panasonic Avionics’ connectivity infrastructure, and support its long-term goal of delivering flexible, high-performance, and future-ready solutions to airline customers.

Spacesail also welcomed the partnership, highlighting that working with Panasonic Avionics will enable its LEO services to enter the aviation sector and help deliver a consistent, high-quality digital experience for passengers worldwide.

The addition of Spacesail supports Panasonic Avionics’ broader technology roadmap, which includes the development of advanced antennas, terminals, and onboard computing platforms capable of combining multiple satellite networks through channel bonding. This multi-network architecture is designed to ensure scalable, high-capacity, and highly reliable connectivity across different orbits, frequency bands, and satellite providers.

Panasonic Avionics has maintained a leading position in the Asia-Pacific in-flight connectivity market for over a decade, supported by strong GEO coverage across China and surrounding regions via the APSTAR-6D satellite, as well as long-standing relationships with regional and global airlines.

By incorporating Spacesail’s LEO constellation, Panasonic Avionics further enhances its ability to deliver advanced multi-orbit connectivity solutions to airlines worldwide, including through its role as a key managed service provider for Airbus’ HBCplus program.
