A video presented by U.N in collaboration with several companies demonstrates the pros of offsetting business strategy.

Dailycsr.com – 07 December 2015 – Christiana Figueres of the United Nations who has been batting for the “benefits of offsetting carbon emissions” has been joined by nine business bodies at the “climate negotiations” that was held at Paris. The nine companies include “Aviva, Sky, Fuji Xerox and DPD”.

Through a video footage, the companies offer an explanation as to “why offset strategies are good business sense”. Moreover, it also includes justification for the “challenges and opportunities” that will be presented on the way of the approach along with the reason for believing that the said approach “has made a difference”.

In fact, various companies across the world has turned to “carbon-offset approaches” which enabled them to achieve more than what their “reduction targets” were expected to be covered. All these required “internal change”. The list of companies to venture out in the said approach includes “Microsoft, Jaguar Land Rover and Marks and Spencer”.

In the words of “Programme Director of the International Carbon Reduction Offset Alliance(’s)” Sophy Greenhalgh:
“We believe that now, more than ever, offsetting has a crucial role to play both for business success and for global greenhouse gas reduction targets. We hope that by hearing about the business benefits of offsetting, others will be inspired to follow their leadership.”

The executive secretary of U.N’s “Framework Convention on Climate Change”, Christiana Figueres urges the world to act in order to secure our future and stabilise the future climate situations. The video also shows her identifying “a vital part of the solution” for coping up with the “global emission reduction goals” being “offsetting”:
“Offsetting is a valid way to reduce global carbon emissions quickly and cost effectively”.

Quoting Ethicalperformance on the “Carbon Disclosure Project Data” as per new research results would be:
“Recent research from Carbon Disclosure Project Data shows that businesses which offset also take the lead in reducing carbon emissions as a whole with the typical offset buyer cutting almost 17% of their scope 1 direct emissions (compared to non offset buyers who reduced emissions by less than 5% in the same year)”.
