Northern Trust employees have once again shown their dedication to community service, contributing an unprecedented 63,214 volunteer hours during Achieving Greater Together, the firm’s annual global service initiative. This month-long effort brought colleagues together across 20 countries, partnering with 1,500 nonprofit organizations to support impactful work worldwide.
Throughout October, teams collaborated with local groups to respond to community needs in a variety of ways – from assembling meals for vulnerable populations in Sydney and assisting early childhood education efforts in Bangalore, to preparing food with A Safe Haven in Chicago, wrapping festive gifts for children in Limerick, and constructing homes alongside Habitat for Humanity. These collective efforts across Northern Trust locations highlight the organization’s global footprint and its commitment to meaningful service.
“Achieving Greater Together serves as a yearly reminder of what we can accomplish when we work side by side,” said Shana Hayes, Chief Social Impact Officer at Northern Trust. “In just one month, our employees devoted the equivalent of seven full years of volunteer time. Their willingness to join forces across regions is making a real, lasting difference. The dedication shown reflects the core values of service that define Northern Trust.”
The company supports year-round volunteerism by providing all employees with two paid volunteer days each year. Additionally, for every hour donated during October, Northern Trust committed to funding 50 meals through The Global FoodBanking Network, the European Food Banks Federation, and Feeding America. As a result, staff efforts led to 3,168,700 meals being donated — exceeding the original target of 3,150,000.
