MetLife Advances Sustainability with Digital Solutions, Tree Planting, and Disaster Support

MetLife is consistently seeking ways to minimize resource consumption and reduce waste by shifting to digital solutions whenever possible. Across many regions, customers now have the convenience of filing claims, making payments, and accessing policy information online. For instance, in Bangladesh, over 1.8 million e-receipts have been issued, while in Turkey, a fully digital sales platform has been introduced, eliminating the need for paper documents and handwritten signatures.

The company also connects sustainability efforts with customer participation by linking tree-planting initiatives to activities such as product purchases or opting into paperless communication. Through the MetLife Legacy Trees™ program, a tree is planted in memory of each individual for whom a Group Life Insurance benefit has been paid. These trees act as lasting tributes while also contributing to cleaner air, flood and erosion prevention, and shade for communities. To achieve this, MetLife collaborates with the Arbor Day Foundation and its network of local partners.

In the United States, MetLife Legal Plans provides free legal document reviews and consultations for employees affected by natural disasters, even if they are not enrolled in the plan. Additionally, after events such as the California wildfires and hurricanes in the Southeast in 2024, the company extended employee assistance services and grief counseling to further support its customers.
