Lenovo Tech World Makes Its CES Debut at Sphere
In a landmark moment, Lenovo’s flagship global innovation event, Tech World, will be hosted at Sphere in Las Vegas for the first time, coinciding with the opening day of CES 2026. More than a keynote venue, Sphere represents Lenovo’s role as an Official Technology Partner of Sphere Studios—where Lenovo solutions actively support both the creation and delivery of content. Lenovo’s high-performance workstations and infrastructure platforms are deeply embedded in Sphere Studios’ production environment, enabling immersive storytelling while highlighting Lenovo’s end-to-end technology capabilities.

Immersion on an Epic Scale
Sphere is unlike any entertainment venue in the world. Rising 366 feet tall and stretching 516 feet wide just east of the Las Vegas Strip, it is the largest spherical structure ever built. Its striking exterior, covered in 1.2 million LED panels, is so expansive it’s visible from space.

Inside and out, every display surface is fully programmable. The exterior “Exosphere” wraps the structure in a seamless 360-degree digital canvas, while the interior features massive 16K resolution wraparound screens. Combined with spatial audio, environmental effects such as wind, temperature, and scent, and haptic seating, Sphere delivers an unmatched multi-sensory experience.

As a publicly traded company, Sphere continues to redefine live entertainment, hosting concerts, sporting events, family programming, and more for millions of visitors each year.

Powering Creation at Massive Scale
To support Sphere’s ambitious content pipeline, Lenovo was selected as the infrastructure partner responsible for enabling content production and driving custom image-processing software.

Sphere Studios relies on hundreds of Lenovo ThinkSystem SR655 V3 servers equipped with AMD EPYC processors and NVIDIA A40 GPUs to design, test, and render original immersive content. AMD EPYC processors provide up to 128 PCIe 4.0 or 5.0 lanes—essential for multi-GPU configurations that demand extensive bandwidth. This architecture ensures smooth performance without data bottlenecks, even at scale, making the ThinkSystem platform a powerful and efficient foundation for Sphere’s cutting-edge visuals.

A Purpose-Built Technology Stack
Lenovo’s close partnerships with AMD and NVIDIA played a critical role in Sphere’s technology selection. The pairing of AMD EPYC CPUs with NVIDIA accelerated computing enables the ThinkSystem SR655 to deliver exceptional performance and flexibility.

High-speed networking is equally essential for synchronizing Sphere’s vast display system. NVIDIA BlueField DPUs and ConnectX-6 Dx network adapters—alongside NVIDIA DOCA Firefly Service and Rivermax software—ensure ultra-low-latency media streaming so every panel functions as part of a single, perfectly aligned visual surface.

Through close collaboration, Lenovo, AMD, and NVIDIA identified the optimal mix of hardware and software to meet Sphere Studios’ technical requirements while maximizing value.

Meeting aggressive timelines was also critical. Lenovo delivered an initial test system within just two days, coordinating closely with AMD and NVIDIA to ensure all components were available, assembled, and ready for evaluation—demonstrating Lenovo’s commitment to speed, service, and project success.

From Strategy to Execution
Sphere Studios’ Burbank facility now operates 420 Lenovo ThinkSystem SR655 and SR665 V3 servers.

Leveraging its globally recognized supply chain—ranked eighth worldwide by Gartner—Lenovo delivered 50 servers per week over a six-week period to complete the initial 300-server deployment in 2022. Lenovo engineers also helped establish a remote management framework using Lenovo XClarity One software. As Sphere’s needs expanded, additional systems were added in the years that followed.

Creating Moments That Captivate
Today, Lenovo ThinkSystem servers enable Sphere Studios to rapidly render ultra-high-resolution content, from the immersive concert film created for U2’s UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency to the breathtaking visuals in Darren Aronofsky’s multi-sensory cinematic production, Postcard From Earth.

The combined power of Lenovo, AMD, and NVIDIA technology also supports themed experiences for major sporting events, including Riyadh Season Noche UFC and the 2024 Upper Deck NHL Draft™. Sphere has also hosted performances by artists such as the Backstreet Boys, Eagles, and Kenny Chesney, along with a reimagined presentation of The Wizard of Oz—signaling a new era for live sports and entertainment.
