Keysight and HEAD acoustics Validate 5G-Enabled NG eCall Interoperability

12/31/2025

Keysight Technologies, Inc has announced the successful completion of an interoperability validation for its UXM-based Next-Generation eCall (NG eCall) solution in collaboration with HEAD acoustics GmbH, a recognized global expert in automotive acoustic testing.

As the automotive sector moves toward 5G-enabled emergency calling systems, automakers and suppliers must ensure consistent, high-quality voice communication across increasingly complex network environments. The successful interoperability between Keysight’s testing platform and HEAD acoustics’ acoustic measurement systems addresses this requirement by enabling reliable assessment of speech quality, network performance, and adherence to emerging NG eCall specifications.

The validation was carried out at Keysight’s Center of Excellence in Böblingen on October 14–15. It confirmed seamless operation between Keysight’s integrated RF test solution and HEAD acoustics’ ACQUA and labCORE measurement environment. Combined, these solutions
provide end-to-end validation of NG eCall performance over both 4G and 5G networks, while also confirming effective fallback operation on legacy 2G and 3G networks.

This achievement aligns with upcoming regulatory developments worldwide, including the European Union’s CEN EN 17240:2024 and China’s GB 45672-2025 standards. By 2027, these regulations will require standardized speech quality testing for in-vehicle emergency call systems, as defined by ITU-T P.1140 and GB/T 45314.

Highlights from the interoperability testing include:
Confirmation of 4G/5G IMS-SIP connectivity and end-to-end audio performance for NG eCall Successful validation of legacy eCall audio over 2G and 3G networks Accurate calibration of audio levels and latency to support regulatory compliance
As vehicles become more connected and software-driven, Keysight continues to lead innovation by providing advanced solutions that help the automotive industry meet increasing safety, performance, and reliability expectations.

Dr. Matthias Wegerhoff, Managing Director of HEAD acoustics, commented: “Customer satisfaction is at the core of our work. Our goal is to deliver a versatile and future-ready portfolio of NG eCall solutions. Collaborating with Keysight adds strong technical expertise, allowing us to jointly develop advanced tools for next-generation voice and audio quality evaluation.”

Thomas Goetzl, Vice President of Automotive & Energy Solutions at Keysight Technologies, added: “This accomplishment highlights Keysight’s dedication to supporting the automotive industry’s shift toward next-generation emergency communication systems. By integrating our RF testing capabilities with HEAD acoustics’ acoustic validation expertise, we are providing a scalable, regulation-ready solution that promotes safer and more reliable mobility worldwide.”
