Dailycsr.com – 29 July 2019 – Have you heard of plogging lately? Well, this concept is introduced by Sweden wherein jogging is in vogue as the jogger also participated in “picking up litter”. This idea has developed in Scandinavia and quickly reached across the major cities in the world.

Interestingly, plogging has now become an “important network” that contributes in spreading awareness about “urban waste”. The strange name has been arrived at by contracting the “English word ‘jogging’” with the ‘Swedish verb ‘plocka upp’”, the latter meaning to “pick up”.

In this form of sport, one runs slowly and bends down to collect any litter that comes on the way. This way, the body is kept fit and in shape while the urban environment is also kept clean. Lausanne has also joined in plogging from 2018, whereby it had organised its “first edition on 2 June”. The following plogging session, however, took place in May 2019.

In the second round, the “Organising Committee for the Winter Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020” were actively present as their numerous staffs, including Organising Committee President Virginie Faivre, also participated in plogging. According to IOC, “International Olympic Committee”:
“As the Lausanne 2020 team was highly impressed by the concept, the YOGOC has decided to organise, with the City of Lausanne, a series of Lausanne 2020 #LausannePlogging events. These will be held every 20th of the month until the start of the Youth Olympic Games”.
