03/10/2015

Can you afford to miss this year’s Health and Safety Expo 2015? It's not only an opportunity for you to learn about health and safety products but it is also an opportunity for you, to know and understand emerging workplace threats and hazards and how to systematically address them. Naturally, guiding and advising you will be a panel of experts. Details of registration and contact info is also provided.

Health And Safety Expo 2015
The Health and Safety Expo had moved to London last year and this year it  will be organized by Western Business Exhibitions at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC). It will be held from the 24th to the 26th of March, so mark your calendar accordingly. It will showcase the latest protection gears and services. As with such shows, it also provides an opportunity to network amongst your peers. Apart from the products and services being showcased, educational programmes will also be held. They are in fact the highlights.

A part of this educational series will include talks and lectures focusing on practical aspects of work ethics and cultures from a psychological point of view. It will be delivered by Dr. Gayle Brewer, a senior lecturer in psychology from the University of Central Lancashire. She is of the opinion that It is important that issues such as stress, bullying and harassment are identified and addressed in a proper manner since they are slowly being given their due recognition as key occupational health challenges. The idea is to address the issues before they become full blown problems.

On Wednesday, the 24th, a panel of experts will convene to discuss the concept of ‘zero harm’ as a corporate goal. This panel of experts is made up of Andrew Sharman from RyderMarshSharman Consultancy, Mike Slater (President, British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS)), Clive Johnson (health and safety Director) from Land Securities, Dave Mason from RS Components (global head of health and safety), Daz Stephenson from the Ministry of Defence.

In this Expo you will also understand in concrete terms how diesel fumes affect the workplace. As has been reported in Health and Safety at Work, more than 10,000 workers across the UK, alone, are exposed on a daily basis to hazardous levels of diesel fumes. Those who travel in buses, work in tollbooths, garages, train sheds, warehouses, and airports are even more susceptible to such health hazards due to their higher amount of exposure.

Exhaust from diesel fumes  are a prime suspect for terminal cancer. In this expo, Duncan Spencer, safety manager from the supermarket - Waitrose, will be speaking on this subject in order to create a greater awareness to this emerging health hazard. Supporting him will be Chris Keen, Health and Safety Laboratory’s, Principle occupational hygienist.

Owen Purcell, will provide you with guidelines, tips, do’s and don’ts, on how to approach and convince your peers and superiors, so that you can define and put in place a clear cut corporate strategy to address these emerging health hazards.

For those who are mathematically minded, or for those who understand Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Emma Cundff’s seminar would be very valuable. She will try to synthesize the subjects of ERM and Health and safety so that delegates understand the implications of the risks they take by adhering, to health and safety practices. Although this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, she feels, that this perception can be invaluable. She further goes to say
“In my seminar I want to turn the concept of risk — usually recognised as negative in nature — inside out and look at how the likelihood of an opportunity risk might be maximised.”

When you attend this expo, you will be see the products and services of the biggest names in this health and safety sector. They will also be available to answer any of your queries. From footwear to air monitoring, personal protection equipment to automated external defibrillators, this expo has everything covered.

It is open from 10am to 5pm between the 24th and the 25th of March at the NEC. Call 0870 4866816 now or Register online to attend this Expo.
