HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, the shipbuilding arm of HD Hyundai, has secured a major contract with U.S. energy infrastructure company Corban Energy Group to provide power generation systems powered by its 9.6-megawatt (MW) HiMSEN engines. The USD 673.8 million agreement covers a total generation capacity of 1,000 MW and is intended to supply electricity to data centers operated by a leading U.S. technology company.
Corban Energy Group specializes in gas, LNG, and power solutions for large-scale infrastructure developments, including data centers and projects associated with the U.S. Department of War (DoW).
The deal represents the biggest power generation engine order in HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' history. It follows a USD 425 million contract signed in April with U.S.-based energy infrastructure developer AEG for power generation equipment intended for data center facilities.
The contract includes HD Hyundai Heavy Industries' 9.6-MW HiMSEN engines, which are medium-speed, high-capacity engines designed to deliver strong efficiency and dependable performance. Their combination of high output and fuel efficiency makes them well suited to data centers that require reliable electricity around the clock, seven days a week.
Following the agreement, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and Corban Energy Group intend to deepen their partnership and pursue additional opportunities through future projects.
Demand for power generation equipment in the U.S. data center sector is expanding rapidly as artificial intelligence applications grow and investments in cloud computing infrastructure accelerate. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) estimates that data centers could account for more than three times their current share of overall U.S. electricity consumption by 2030.
HD Hyundai is also pursuing a broader group-wide strategy to benefit from the expanding data center industry. HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, the group's intermediate holding company for its shipbuilding operations, is working on key technologies for floating data centers. Meanwhile, HD Hyundai Electric is broadening its activities in power distribution and electrical equipment, while HD Hyundai Marine Solution is strengthening its role in power generation engine maintenance services.
